Joint or separate accounts?

All joint, all separate, or a mix. Pick what fits.

5 min read

There's no single right answer. What matters is that you both understand and agree with how it works.

Common setups

  • All joint: everything pooled, simple and fully shared
  • All separate: each pays agreed shares of shared costs
  • Yours, mine and ours: a joint account for shared bills and goals, plus personal accounts

Things to agree

  • Who pays which bills, and from where
  • How much each person adds to shared accounts
  • Who can see which accounts
